ID cards - MetCard 

Your MetCard gives you access to: 

• Campus facilities (Halls accommodation if you are a residential student)

• Library and IT services

• Self-service printing and copying

You'll also need your MetCard if you join the University's gym.


Who needs a MetCard?

All staff and students, and anyone who needs regular access to the University. 

Daily visitors should report to campus reception, other regular visitors should ask their University contact to complete this form.


How do I get a MetCard?

Students

Enrolled students can upload a passport-style photo online

Please allow one day for your photograph to be checked and processed, you can collect your card from the Izone when you are next on campus.

The IZone is open daily from 9am-4pm.

Photo guidelines:

• clear and in focus in colour

• unaltered by computer software 

• contain no other objects or people

• be taken against a plain light-coloured background

• The photo should show a head-and-shoulders 

• The filetype you save it as should be .JPG. and less than 500KB in size.

Staff

New Cardiff Met employees will be contacted directly by HR to provide an electronic photo. ID cards can be collected from the campus Print Studio.

New external staff members will be contacted by MetCard to provide a photo and delivery address for their ID card.


Lost or stolen MetCard?

Please contact us at metcard@cardiffmet.ac.uk to request a replacement card.

If you are a student, you should keep your card for the duration of your course/programme.



Frequently Asked Questions

My name has changed, how do I update my metcard?

Your MetCard shows only your name and staff/student number.

Students requiring a name change please email - enrolment@cardiffmet.ac.uk

Staff members should update your name with People Services (HumanResources@cardiffmet.ac.uk).


My card isn’t working on the doors

If your card doesn’t open the doors around campus, it may need to be updated. You can update your card at one of the metcard ‘hotspots’. 

Simply hold your card on the hotspot for five seconds. The hotspot will flash red, blue and finally green Your card has now been updated.

If you still experience problems opening doors your card may need to be fixed or replaced.

Faulty cards should be placed in the MetCard Drop Box. These are located outside the campus Print Studio. You will be contacted as soon as your card is repaired.
