Football Academy

Cardiff Met’s Junior Football programme boasts one of the largest, comprehensive and credible football programmes in South Wales.

The Academy

We are a Football Association of Wales (FAW) licenced and accredited Academy.
Teams ranging from U5s to U19s, with four playing within the JD Welsh Premier Academy League system
All of our coaches hold the necessary FAW and UEFA coaching qualifications as well as meeting child protection and first aid legislations.

Overview

Cardiff Met FC have a strong tradition of attractive attacking football, something the Academy takes pride in replicating. The club provides a clear pathway for players to progress through our youth
development programme. We are dedicated to developing good
people as well as good players.
We are a family and community Academy.

Academy Philosophy

Our club identity is critical in the development of our young players. We aim to improve our players by developing them technically, tactically, physically, and psychosocially. Central to achieving this is to facilitate the players learning within our clubs style of play, that being; an attractive brand of attacking football, based on keeping possession and quick ball movement.

We are committed to ensuring that for the future benefit of the club, a comprehensive youth programme will be maintained and developed to cultivate the young talent within both the club and the local community.

Our Academy philosophy is delivered by coaches who study within the university and players who represent Cardiff Met FC in the JD Welsh Premier League. All of our coaches are DBS checked, suitably qualified and have advanced academic and
theoretical knowledge. It is essential that a broad base of footballer who have the necessary skills and motivation to become top level players, are nurtured through the Youth structure. Therefore, it is important to foster our youth development
programme(s) in order to attract and better educate boys and girls, who not only play the game, but are also students of it.

take place in May 2018, with preseason starting for all Academy players in August.

Futsal

Between the months of December and January, all of our Academy players will participate in The FAW Futsal programme.
The importance in this programme lied in the continuation of training and games during the winter period so players’ development is not hampered by the weather conditions. By playing Futsal, the nature of the game means that the players will be challenged to play in confined spaces under pressure and test them technically, tactically and physically. In addition, the games are very fast paced which makes the games exciting for the players and aligns to the club’s playing style of
possession based attractive football.

Cyncoed Campus 3G

All of our training sessions and games are played at Cardiff Met Cyncoed Campus on the 3G surface. Our 3G surface has a FIFA 2* rating and has been used by The Wales National Team, English Premier League sides, it was a host venue for the
UEFA Women’s Champions League and is the home pitch of JD Welsh Premier League side(s) Cardiff Met (L)FC.
