Professor Sushila Chang

BSC(Hons), MSC/PhD (Cellular Biology and Toxicology)

Sushila Chang was awarded BSc (Hons) Biology from the University of London, MSc and PhD degrees  in Toxicology and Cellular Biology from the University of Paris VII and the graduate certificate in intellectual property law from the National University of Singapore.  Sushila was a teaching/research fellow at the University of Paris VII and subsequently joined Nestle R&D as Food Toxicologist.  

Sushila was the first Dean of Life Sciences and Chemical Technology and Health Sciences at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Singapore.  She was first Registrar/Sr Director of Student Affairs at the Singapore University of Design and Technology. She was Co-Director of Biotechnology at the University of Queensland, Australia and then first Director of the Office of Undergraduate Education. She moved to Griffith University as Academic Dean of the Sciences Faculty which housed 4 schools and 7 research centres/institutes. 

Her research in aquatic biotechnology spawned two companies. She was consultant to the Ministry of Environment of Singapore (2002-2004) in food safety and consultant to companies in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and China.

Sushila was President of the Singapore Society for Biotechnology and Microbiology for 6 years and the first non-North American and second woman to be the Chair of the International Life Sciences Institute.

Sushila loves reading, gardening, cooking, culture and languages and getting to know others. She is looking forward to meeting her new colleagues at Cardiff Met.
