Areas of Responsibility

I have several roles with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

My primary role is Project Officer with Fovo Technology Ltd (Fovotec), a spinout company of Cardiff School of Art and Design.  I have worked with the team developing this incredibly exciting area of cutting-edge immersive graphics rendering technology since 2015 (see www.fovotec.com).  Drawing on my previous professional experience I manage the financial, contractual and administrative side of the project and support the company's board of directors.  Please contact me with any enquiries regarding the company's activities.

Since 2018, I've been an Associate Tutor on the Cardiff Open Art School programme offering textiles programmes and am also a Widening Access Tutor for the wider University specialising in textiles and creativity.

Biography

In 2014, after a 28-year career to Board Director level in further and higher education communications, public relations, and organisational improvement, I decided to pursue my passion for visual arts.  As a textile artist, it was a thrill to win Wales' first ever Art Challenge in 2015.  Passionate about inspiring creativity in others and using stitch to express themselves artistically, I qualified as a teacher (PGCE PCET) in 2018 and deliver workshops in South East Wales for all ages, abilities, and disabilities and to those living with illness, e.g. dementia.

Well-being is at the heart of my creative work.  I like to recycle and repurpose objects which feature heavily in expressing personal stories through stitch and mixed-media.

I  volunteer with several community organisations involved in themes like well-being, conservation and creativity.  I'm keen to build opportunities for people experiencing disadvantage and help individuals to realise their creative potential and find their voice through the arts.  I draw inspiration from nature and travel.   www.karenoshea.co.uk
