Sue Hunt is a painter and printmaker and currently Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at Cardiff School of Art and Design. She has exhibited her work widely, both in the UK and internationally.

Over the years she has had several awards from the Arts Council of Wales, taking her on study trips to the U.S.A, Mexico, Philadelphia, and India. In 2004 she was invited back to India for an exhibition at the Jawahar Kala Kendre in Jaipur. An opportunity to work in the Edinburgh Print Workshop on a suite of new solar plate prints was also supported by ACW in 2010.

Sue is a member of V-6 Contemporary Printmakers and has shown widely with them, most recently in collaboration with Indian and UK artists, and also with ‘Vario’, an Australian originated tour of collated prints which were shown in 2010 in Bay Arts, Cardiff. 2011 brings another opportunity to collaborate, with an Indian Exchange exhibition in Cardiff and Jaipur, and a one-person show of paintings at the Denise Yapp Gallery, Monmouth.

Her work has always had a strong abstract identity in terms of composition, and a rigour in her interest in drawing.

The balance between these elements shifts with each picture, and often within a composition itself, as drawing becomes more exacting, or the colour and spatial structure take precedence. The paint, the ink, the nature of the stuff itself, how it sits on paper or soaks into raw canvas, whether it is subtle and veil-like or more bold and brash, the spirit of the application, is of keen importance in how the pieces are made. All of these elements are of critical concern in terms of how her paintings, prints or drawings develop.
