Work Based Learning

The Centre for Work Based Learning develops, and provides support and guidance, on the development and delivery of industry-focused training courses, as well as work based learning courses designed for people in the workplace.

The Centre is the point of contact for the facilitation of work based learning  across the University's  individual schools and departments, providing businesses with sector specific support and expertise in delivering effective training and development solutions with within the workplace.

The Centre will ensure that there is a clear link between the objectives of the individual and the organisation in the design and delivery of work based learning activity. For further information, please see our Bespoke Programmes page.

The Centre can develop courses to allow the individuals to maximise the learning opportunities within the work place, acknowledging skills, knowledge and behaviours developed at work to enhance the desired learning outcome.  For more information please see our Recognising Prior Learning page.

The Centre values the high quality provision of learning within employers and specialist providers, and has developed a very flexible Accreditation Service which allows high quality work based learning programmes to become accredited by the University. This service allows individuals to achieve University credits and access Higher Education through their employer's work based programmes.

The Centre has developed in partnership with Acorn Learning a Work Based Foundation Degree which makes access to higher education a lot more accessible and flexible. Individuals can study for the Foundation Degree in Applied Professional Practice through a combination of classroom based sessions, develop professionally through reflecting on work based practices and improving independent learning techniques.
