I gained a BSc Honours degree in Chemistry at Bristol University in 1988, followed by a PGCE. Having spent 18 years teaching Chemistry at two Cardiff secondary schools, I joined the School of Education as a senior technician in 2008.
My role involves providing technical support for the PGCE Secondary Science practical workshops and for several PGCE Primary subjects. I am the principal author of local CoSHH assessments, and document hazard control in the laboratory environment on behalf of academic colleagues. As a member of the Safety Inspection Team, I also report to the CSE H&S Committee. My other responsibilities include filming lectures, seminars and presentations for various programmes across the School of Education, and liaising with the Timetable Unit to make ad-hoc room bookings on behalf of CSE staff.
I am also involved in several Enterprise activities. I have arranged for CSE to host CPD courses for Science teachers and technicians from across Wales facilitated by CLEAPSS, the support service for school Science. With a particular interest in the use of data logging equipment to enhance Science practical work, I also organise regular data logging workshops within the CSE specialist laboratories, for local secondary school pupils.
