Our activities are cohered around the following discipline areas.

The Cardiff Met Department of Biomedical Sciences hosts approximately 600 students, and comprises 25 members of academic staff plus technical/administrative staff. We have a wealth of expertise across our department, and are active in numerous areas relevant to the enterprise agenda:

  • Facilities and Services

Our department has a portfolio of modern laboratories (general laboratory spaces, a ‘clinical simulation suite’, and additional dedicated specialist laboratories for exercise physiology/health assessment, molecular biology, microbiology, tissue culture, etc), all of which are well equipped with regard to supporting a wide range of enterprise activities, and are available for use by external partners.

  • Continuous Professional Development

Our Biomedical Science programmes (or elements therefrom) are suitable for offer as CPD activities in a number of contexts. For example, our ‘clinical simulation suite’ has been used as the focus of ‘clinical education’ short courses by which health professionals can undergo ‘upskilling’ in order to boost their career development and/or employability.

  • External Engagement

We have a long-standing track-record of involvement in public awareness of science events, and can provide guest speakers and training workshops to partners/clients who are hosting such events. For example, our expertise in the area of non-invasive cardiovascular health assessment has allowed us to regularly participate in health awareness activities such as provision of ‘health MOT’ consultations in collaboration with partners including the British Heart Foundation at prominent national events such as the Urdd and National Eisteddfodau.

  • Contract Research and Consultancy
