Course Content
Completion of 60 credits at each stage is required. All modules are 20 credits.
At Certificate and Diploma levels, students study modules from a selected specialist area, which may include fixed prosthodontics (conservation), removable prosthodontics (dentures) and orthodontics. For example, module titles include, complex complete and partial dentures, precision attachments, implants, fixed and myofunctional orthodontic appliances.
There are several Work Based Learning modules involving case studies, personal and portfolio development. Research modules are also available preparing candidates for the Masters' if required. At this level a research project and preparation of a publishable article must be undertaken. The research topic is agreed between the student and their allocated supervisor.
Learning & Teaching
Attendance for this programme is via video conference. This will necessitate students accessing a PC or Internet compatible device with a broadband connection. There are no required attendances to campus.
Assessment
Certificate and Diploma Modules are assessed by practical and theoretical examinations, written or practical assignments or a combination of these. The Masters' component (part 2) is assessed by a research project worth 60 credits.
Employability & Careers
The qualifications allow application for the post of Senior Dental Technician and above within the health service (at MT0 3/A4C Band 6 or higher). Successfully completing the programmes would also allow those in the private sector to carry out more demanding work with an associated higher earning potential.
Entry Requirements & How to Apply
Due to the specialist nature of the programmes, an initial qualification in dental technology is required. Applicants should have a
good honours degree (1st or 2:1 classification) in dental technology.
Exceptions may be made for strong applicants who have alternative qualifications supported by industry experience.
International Applicants
Students whose first language is not English will need to provide evidence of fluency to at least an IELTS 6.5 standard overall with at least 6.0 in all elements, or equivalent. For full details about how to apply and English Language qualifications please visit the
