The Level 2 course, formerly known as the
Foundation or Basic Food Hygiene Certificate, is aimed at all food handlers who
need a basic understanding of food safety in the catering/ hospitality,
manufacturing or retail sectors.
The course aims to give delegates an understanding of the importance of good
hygiene practice and to improve food safety knowledge and promote the use of
this knowledge in the workplace.
The course matches the RSPH syllabus. It comprises of one day training
(approximately 6 hours) including a 30 question multiple choice examination
paper. The examination duration is 40 minutes, and delegates must achieve 20
correct answers to be awarded the certificate. It is strongly recommended that
applicants refresh this certificate every 3 years.
Qualification: The Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering
from the 'Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH)'.
