Teaching

Gayle has been teaching on the BSc (Hons) Environmental Health degree for over 13 years and during this time has ​become both a fellow and then Senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Gayle has engaged on a Higher Education Academy teaching excellence programme and INSIGHTS leadership development course. She also delivers teaching on the MSc Applied Public Health and supervises master's students across both the MSc Applied Public Health and MSc Occupational Safety, Health & Wellbeing courses.

Her main teaching areas of interest are:

  • Environmental Protection
  • Health Impact Assessment
  • Health Protection

Gayle has also had the opportunity to deliver teaching sessions in Institutions both in Europe and Africa and continues to foster these international partnerships​.

Research

Gayle studied Environmental Health at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) before working for several years in the public sector dealing with Environmental Protection related issues including nuisance investigation, air quality, environmental health policy and strategy, as well as specialising in noise control and environmental acoustics. Gayle then moved into a broader public health role as manager of a strategic public health partnership. She holds a Master in Public Health from Cardiff University and post graduate certificate in Acoustics and noise control engineering. During her time in practice, Gayle developed several research interests and is currently undertaking a PhD at Cardiff Metropolitan University. In addition to this Gayle is very keen to develop her pedagogic research with particular interest in assessment literacy and problem based enquiry.
