Children risk health as sport drinks' marketing is misunderstood

Dr. Ruth Fairchild, registered Nutritionist and senior lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University said " The purpose of sports drinks are being misunderstood and this study clearly shows evidence of high school age children being attracted to these high sugar and low pH level drinks, leading to an increased risk of dental cavities, enamel erosion and obesity."

Cardiff Met’s ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre one of three development partners of £21 million food innovation project.

Project HELIX is funded through the Rural Development Programme (RDP) and is expected to create 370 new jobs, primarily in rural Wales and the Valleys, while safeguarding a further 2,000 over the next five years.

David Lloyd appointed Vice Chairman of the Wales Food and Drink Industry Board

David Lloyd, Director of the Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, has been appointed Vice Chairman of the Wales Food and Drink Industry Board.

The board operates as the voice of the food and drink sector in Wales. David Lloyd is one of three new appointments to the board, after Andy Richardson, Head of Corporate Affairs of dairy nutrition business Volac was made Chairman of the board and Justin Scale, Managing Director of Pembrokeshire-based Capestone Organic Poultry Limited, was also made a Vice-Chairman.

Established in 2014, the Wales Food and Drink Industry Board provides direction to the sector, sharing vital information and ensuring sustainability, profitability and food safety throughout the industry.

In his current role as Director of the Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Met, David works closely with both the private sector and Welsh Government, advising on issues affecting the sector.

Cardiff Metropolitan University's Food Industry Centre has appointed Martin Sutherland to the newly created role of Head of Business and Marketing Consultancy. This role will further strengthen the ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre by providing commercial and marketing consultancy support for businesses.
