Educational Leadership, Management and TESOL

** Please note that Language and Literature will no longer be running this year**

During these two weeks you will have the opportunity to explore the following :

This summer school is divided into two parts: leadership and management and TESOL. In the first part we will discover what skills and knowledge aspiring leaders in education need to have. We will examine key theories of leadership and how they apply to educational contexts. We will focus on school improvement and learn about educational research on creating a self-improving school system and provide guidance on using a self assessment and reflective evaluation to identify specific development issues in your profession. We will investigate mentoring and coaching principles and policies in action; you will discover and examine the role of mentoring and coaching in leading organisational change.

The second part of the summer school focuses on TESOL: what the teacher needs to know, the most up to date methods of teaching and how to plan a lesson, including identifying key aims and selection of materials. The course uses a variety of approaches including video, observation of authentic English classes, English language course books and supplementary materials. We will learn about key theories in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and how to apply these in classroom teaching and in the creation of teaching materials. There will be a focus on different markets for English language teaching including teaching Young Learners, English for Specific Purposes and English for Academic Purposes.
