Kathryn joined Cardiff School of Management in 2009, and is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management within the Business Studies Department and HRM Fieldgroup. She is module leader across undergraduate, and postgraduate level programmes: the Level 5 module – 'HRM in Context', the MBA module – 'Managing People in a Global Context', and the MSc HRM module – 'Contemporary Issues in HRM'. She also team teaches on a number of other modules such as the Level 4 module 'Foundations of HRM', MBA module 'People and Organisations', and MSc IBM module 'Organisations and Culture in a Global Context'. In addition she supervises students taking MBA Capstone projects, Level 6 Launching an Enterprise projects, and Level 6 Dissertations. She has formerly been Year 1 Tutor for the Business & Management Studies degree.
Kathryn is currently undertaking a PhD, investigating the entrepreneurial behaviour of women managers in the third sector, which includes review of learning, human resource management, third sector management, entrepreneurship and gender. Her other research interests have been in the fields of management, communication, work-based learning and intergenerational practice, and managing change.
Kathryn was formerly a Senior Lecturer for eight years with the Centre for Lifelong Learning at the University of Glamorgan, and was the Training Co-ordinator for the WAG funded Wales Centre for Intergenerational Practice responsible for its Wales wide training and consultancy service. She has also taught a range of accredited courses for the Centre for Lifelong Learning at Cardiff University such as Women into Management, Personnel & Human Resource Management, and Managing in Voluntary Sector. Prior to working in HE, she had eight years experience of management in the voluntary sector, most recently as Deputy Director of an infrastructure voluntary organisation.
She obtained an MBA with Distinction at the University of Glamorgan in 1997, gained a PGCE (PCET) from Cardiff University in 2006, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Social Research from Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2010. Kathryn is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and an Associate Academic Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), both of which are vital professional networks for the continuous development of teaching, learning and research activities.
Kathryn was involved in the development and validation of our new MSc in HRM, and the formal approval by CIPD of CSM as an approved Centre.
