A graduate of Cardiff Metropolitan University's 20Twenty Leadership Programme has been named winner at this year's Leading Wales Awards.

Wendy Sadler, Director of Cardiff-based social enterprise Science Made Simple, was named winner of the Leadership in Social Enterprise category, supported by Social Firms Wales & Wales Co-Operative Centre, in association with Cardiff Metropolitan University.

After receiving her award, Wendy said; "It means so much to me personally and to the Science Made Simple team to be recognised as leaders in the social enterprise sector.

"We're all passionate about everyone having access to science, and I'm fortunate that the people drawn to this career are incredibly motivated and inspirational already. Being nominated was an honour, but it was an incredibly proud moment for me to win."

Director of the 20Twenty Leadership, Professor Brian Morgan was delighted to hear about Wendy's leadership award. Professor Morgan said: "We were delighted that Wendy, a former graduate of the 20Twenty Leadership Programme has been honored and recognised for her leadership work. Wendy demonstrated outstanding leadership and maintained a clear sense of purpose throughout the 20Twenty programme. I wish her every success in the future."

Barbara Chidgey, Chair of the Leading Wales Awards Consortium added: "All of our finalists are truly exceptional leaders who are indeed making a real difference in Wales. It is a happy coincidence that six of the eight are women. Each has passionate belief and commitment to a cause, business or community and a strong moral compass, together with a real complexity of skills, attributes and knowledge. Through their leadership they are contributing to us building the Wales we really want."

Science made simple is a social enterprise with a mission to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and mathematicians. They do this by developing and presenting interactive performances that travel to schools and festivals across the UK and internationally (28 countries to date!). The shows support and enrich the curriculum and showcase contemporary science and its relevance to students. The company reaches around 70,000 students each year and over 500,000 since they began. With a head office in Cardiff University and regional presenters across the UK, they offer nationwide coverage. The company also offers science communication and public engagement training using a range of innovative formats, including street performance, physical theatre and busking. They also offer a unique non-verbal theatre show called visualise – which has no words, but plenty of show-stopping science. In 2009 we were awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering medal for the Public Promotion of Engineering.
