The University's men's rugby team is celebrating after triumphing at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Rugby 7's Championships in West Park RFC in Leeds, this week and won each of their matches
The 12-strong Cardiff Met team showed great character as they battled through tough weather on the day of the match and beat Durham University by 27-12, in what was described as the best played rugby of the whole competition.
Cardiff Met's journey however began on rough grounds as they were drawn into a tough Pool alongside Newcastle University, Leeds University and Durham University.
The team pulled through with their first win against Newcastle by 17-7. The team went on from strength-to-strength after as they won the remaining games in the pool and stormed through the finals against Bristol University in the quarter-finals, Loughborough in the semi-finals and Durham University in the finals. The team scored a total of 144 across six games with just 33 conceded.
Danny Milton, Coach for Cardiff Met's men's rugby team, said: "Our male rugby players are dedicated athletes committed to their game and training, and they are very deserving of this title win. The dedication of the coaching team behind them and family and supporters who travelled to Leeds has played no small part in this success. Congratulations."
The next match will be Cardiff Met RFC 1st team against Rygbi Gogledd Cymru (RGC) in the WRU Championships at home on the 7th May 2016.
