A team of students from Cardiff Met is celebrating after impressing a panel of the UK’s leading marketers.
Third year marketing management students Katie-Jayne James, Alex Bennett and Samantha Proffitt, who call themselves Met-Marketers on a Mission, are one of only three teams to get through to the finals of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s (CIM) prestigious student marketing competition, ‘The Pitch 2017’.
Met-Marketers on a Mission are headed to London at the end of April to see if they have won the coveted UK award which includes a £3,000 cash prize and a one-year membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
The CIM Pitch is a UK-wide marketing competition for students which is designed to recognise and reward marketing talent of the future.
In order to scoop their top three position, Met-Marketers on a Mission competed against some of the country’s top creative talents. After receiving a detailed brief from company Student Universe, the students were asked to prepare a marketing plan to launch Student Universe into the UK market.
Their impressive strategic marketing plan was the key to being invited to the CIM headquarters in Cookham, Berkshire where they entered a tense round of pitches against the top-12 teams in the UK before making the top three. One of the judges who advises 10 Downing Street stated that the Met-Marketers’ pitch was the best practitioner presentation that he had seen on the day.
Head of Department for Marketing and Strategy at Cardiff Met, Dr Paula Kearns said: “Our students’ success in such a prestigious competition really shows the talent Cardiff Metropolitan Marketing students have and goes a long way to establishing us as a centre of marketing excellence.”
Alex Bennett added: “Taking part in the Pitch has been a great experience and seeing ourselves compete against some of the UK’s top universities has really felt good and increased our self-confidence. The tutors at Cardiff Met have been fabulous and without their encouragement we would never have entered, let alone be in the top three teams in the UK.”
