Cardiff Met Trampoline Academy gymnast, Zainub Akbar, scooped a silver in the individual event at the World Age Group Championships in Odense, Denmark over the weekend.
Zainub, from Canton in Cardiff, represented Great Britain at the championships where she competed alongside 1,400 athletes in the four day event in Odense, Denmark. In addition to her silver medal in the individual event, Zainub also placed fourth in the synchro event.
Speaking about the competition, Zainub said: "The whole event was an incredible experience and it was an honour to represent Great Britain again at the World Age Group Championships. This is my last year as a junior trampoline gymnast and I am so happy to have achieved silver in the individual event. I am very thankful for my coaches at Cardiff Met and for the support I receive from Sport Wales and Welsh Gymnastics."
The World Age Group competition showcases over 1,400 of the world's best athletes in four different events; trampoline, synchronized trampoline, tumbling and double mini-trampoline.
Jake Bailey for Cardiff Met Trampoline Academy, said: "We are very proud of Zainub and what she has achieved at the championships. It was clear she had a special talent when she started jumping at Cardiff Met aged six. She now trains over 20 hours a week, and truly deserves this wonderful success. We are confident she will continue to do well in her senior career."
Zainub has been part of part of the national Welsh team since she was eight. She made her international debut in 2014 when she competed with the British team for the European Youth Championships and placed 6th overall. In addition to this, Zainub has competed at the 2014 Youth Olympics in China and the 2014 World Age Championships in Florida where she took home a Bronze for the synchronised event, and has been the British 17-18 champion for the last two years.
