A total of ten past and present Cardiff Met students will represent Wales in the 2015 netball World Cup squad with lecturer Suzy Drane captaining the team.

Current students include Chelsea Lewis, Georgia Rowe, Bethan Dyke and Kyra Jones.

Former students include Sara Bell, Nichola James, Latisha Kidner, Suzy Drane, Kelly Morgan and Steph Williams.

Suzy Drane, Wales' most experienced current netball international, will lead her country into the 14th Netball World Cup in Australia next month. Suzy lectures in Sport Development and Performance Sport at Cardiff Met's School of Sport.

The tournament will be held at venues within Sydney's Olympic Park between August 7th and 16th.

Suzy commented:

"Cardiff Met continuously creates an environment in which elite sports men/ women are enabled to develop with their sporting and academic ambitions. This is demonstrated by 10 of the 12 players announced in this year's Netball World Cup being current or alumni students.

"Individuals including Julia Longville, Dave Cobner and Anna Mayes have been influential in ensuring players strike the balance between education, training and playing at an elite level. The empathy and flexibility shown to elite athletes across a range of sports is a strong characteristic of Cardiff Met and consequently attracts a number of elite athletes.

"I am hugely grateful for Cardiff Met's support as a student and now my employer– their flexibility and commitment to my international performance means I can focus 100% on the task ahead."

Director of Sport at Cardiff Met, Dave Cobner said:

"This news is testament to the quality of coaching and teaching that we deliver year after year in the Cardiff School of Sport.

"We are absolutely  delighted to see that 10 out of 12 of the World Cup players will be drawn from Cardiff Met and would like to wish the team the very best of luck in Australia."
