Cardiff Metropolitan University has recently funded a sponsorship deal with the development squad of Burnham-on-Sea Rugby Club.
This new sponsorship is part of Cardiff Met’s drive to support communities in principle catchment areas for the university and is the first sponsorship deal that the university has made so far.
Burnham-on Sear RFC is based in North Somerset and the development squad is drawn from players currently attending Bridgwater College, The King Alfred School, Weston College and Kings of Wessex Academy.
As part of the sponsorship deal, Cardiff Metropolitan University hosted the development squad during a visit to Cyncoed Campus. The trip allowed players to experience the professional environment that supports the university's high performance teams.
The visit included sessions examining the correct use of food supplements, approaches to strength and conditioning, periodization of training and key individual and team skills.
Director of Sport at Cardiff Met, Chris Jennings said: “Each year a high number of students from North Somerset come to study at Cardiff Met and it is very rewarding to support a club that is committed to developing young players. The development squad got fully involved and were a credit to the club.”
Burnham-on-Sea's development squad Captain, Ashley Cutter, commented on the visit: "We had a great welcome and the squad really enjoyed the day and learnt a lot. It was great to get involved and experience what the National League squad will be experiencing this year."
