Cardiff Met students honoured at national awards

Cardiff Met student, Robert Mant, celebrates his regional and national awards.

UMAX at the Students' Union is delighted to announce our range of winners for the 2015 Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Awards.

This is the second year that UMAX have hosted the SEOTY awards at Cardiff Met as part of the growing initiative with 601 nominations from 40 institutions across the UK.

Departments at Cardiff Met and external employers had the opportunity to nominate students for their hard work under the following categories:

  • Above and Beyond

For anyone who regularly goes above and beyond their job description to be the best they can be at what they do.

  • Step Up to Leadership

For those students who have demonstrated their ability to lead teams or projects.

  • Commercial Impact

For those students who have made a big commercial impact, improving profits, or maybe coming up with an enterprising new idea.

  • Jobshop/Student Temp

Where the UMAX Jobshop have the opportunity to recognise one of our outstanding student employees

These nominations allowed students to have the opportunity to win at Institutional, Regional and National level. There will then be one overall winner for the most outstanding student nomination in the whole of the UK.

Last year we managed to have three regional winners which was fantastic.

This year we have gone from strength to strength giving more students recognition for their proactive nature and hard work.

A big congratulations to our winners!

Regional winners:

Robert Mant (part of the Alumni telephone fundraisers team): Step Up to Leadership

The Alumni telephone fundraisers team: Commercial Impact

Highly Commended runner up regional winners:

International Student Helpers: Above and Beyond

Freya Knibb: Job Shop/Student Temp Award

This year one of our students won at National level!

Congratulations to Robert Mant for winning the National Award for Step Up to Leadership and the fantastic Alumni telephone fundraisers team for being Highly Commended runner up for Commercial Impact

These students have been invited to attend the Teach First Emerging Talent Programme and SEOTY Awards evening in Liverpool on Thursday 2nd July.

We want to say a huge thank you to all the departments that have nominated their brilliant students, and most importantly the students at Cardiff Met for their excellent work.

Some feedback we received:

"I am so grateful to have not only been nominated, but also won a Student Employee of the Year Award at Institutional and Highly Commended at Regional level for my work at UMAX, Cardiff Met Students' Union. I feel the work I have completed over the past year has been valued, recognised and has given me experience, motivation and confidence within the world of work that can be applied in my future career. Thank you!"
