Cardiff Met’s BA Marketing Management degree programme awarded new Chartered Institute of Marketing accreditation

Cardiff Metropolitan University's new BA Marketing Management degree programme has been awarded the new Chartered Institute of Marketing's Graduate Gateway accreditation.

This is the only pure Marketing degree course available in South Wales and the accreditation gives Cardiff School of Management's BA Marketing Management students, the additional opportunity to achieve CIM qualifications during their time at Cardiff Metropolitan.

The agreement with The Chartered Institute of Marketing - which is the leading international body for marketing and business development - allows exemption from one of the Institute's three modules at Certificate in Professional Marketing level as well as one of three modules for the higher level Diploma in Professional Marketing.

Chartered Marketer Katherine Mutter is Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the University and a Programme Director at the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). She said: "We are very excited about this development and the employability potential it provides for our students. When they graduate, they can leave with a completed  Certificate in Professional Marketing and a third of the higher level Diploma. This differentiates them from many other Marketing students in the job market."

The accredited programme includes exemption from the CIM core Marketing module as Cardiff Metropolitan University BA Marketing Management students study a wide variety of focussed Marketing modules during their course. Accreditation also includes the payment of £50 CIM membership fee for third year students and an internally accredited study centre open solely to Cardiff Metropolitan Marketing students on the Llandaff campus, where assignments and portfolios are developed and then sent to the CIM to be assessed externally.

Spanish speaker Katherine, who benefits from extensive practitioner experience with previous roles including International Marketing Director in the steel industry and high quality wire industry, where she led the provision of 7-wire steel cable for the Second Severn Crossing, continued: "We are delighted to be teaming up with the CIM to offer our students every additional opportunity possible.

"The BA Marketing Management course has been running at Cardiff Metropolitan University since 2004 and includes a wide portfolio of modules which challenge and stretch the students in preparation for the world of work.

"Recognition like this of the caliber of courses on offer here ensures our positioning with businesses as developing thoroughly employable graduates. For example, last year, our digital marketing students designed apps for their assessment and some have already commercialised them which is a great learning experience and something that businesses can use.

This is in no small part due to our enviable student employability record  of 94% and our leading reputation for putting employability and Marketing 'savvy' at the very heart of all our programmes.

"We give all students the opportunity of experiencing practical, hands-on and  integrated marketing experiences, and some will be involved in a live marketing project with the Wales Millennium Centre.

"Many of last year's graduates already have exciting new jobs and are utilising their knowledge and portfolio of work that their studies afforded them.  As a key business discipline, the fight for talented Marketers has started and our graduates are prepared to shine. Education and Marketing are both preparing for an unknown future.  No-one can say how business will look in three years' time, and what about twenty years' time? Well-qualified and diligent graduates with problem-solving, decision-making and research skills who have strategic focus will be required to help overcome this unknown and that is exactly what we have at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
