Over the past week Cardiff Metropolitan University teams have been in six BUCS finals.
The University is celebrating the success of its men's rugby team, who won the Vase Trophy at the final of the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Championships in Loughborough last Wednesday. They beat Newcastle University 27-18, to take the trophy in which the bottom three teams from the Premier North and South leagues compete.
The week was otherwise a so near and yet so far experience for the students.
The women's squash team drew 2-2 with favourites Birmingham University, but lost on count back.
The university's women's rugby 1st team lost 28-12 to Gloucestershire at Twickenham, while the 2nds lost 34-17 to Northumbria's 1st Team in the Trophy final at Loughborough.
Women's cricket, going for their third successive championship win, beat Birmingham in the semi-final but lost to Exeter in the indoor final in Headingley.
The netball 1st team, who have gone through the whole season undefeated, lost to Leeds Beckett 50-31 in the Championship Final.
Director of Sport for Cardiff Met, Dave Cobner said: "I would like to congratulate all our finalists. The students were a credit to the University. They have performed well week in week out all season and it is a great achievement to reach the finals.
"It is tough when you get to a final and don't come away as champions, but I am sure that all the players will have benefitted from the experience and come back stronger next season."
