One of Cardiff Metropolitan University's partner's, the International College of Business and Technology, Sri Lanka (ICBT), walked away with a 43-run victory in the finals of the Sri Lankan leg of the Red Bull Campus Cricket.
Red Bull Campus Cricket consists of seven test countries (Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and West Indies) taking part in 20-20 format matches for under 25's. Private Higher Education campuses in Sri Lanka took part, including ICBT.
The ICBT men leapt off the blocks with an early onslaught during their cricket match. Their competitors, The Royal Institute of Colombo, chased a target of 173 in their 20 overs, lost wickets at regular intervals, and were bowled out for 129 in 20 overs, during the final match with ICBT. Overall, they did little to shake ICBT's fluency and relentless assault, which was no easy feat.
ICBT's bowlers shared the wickets around and eventually bowled The Royal Institute of Colombo out on the final ball of the 20th over.
The victorious ICBT were overjoyed at their result and were thankful for Red Bull for giving them the opportunity to showcase their sporting talent. As a result of ICBT's triumph over The Royal Institute of Colombo they have secured a place, representing Sri Lanka, in the Red Bull Campus Cricket World Finals, a global event which will be held in July at The Oval in London, featuring top cricket teams from various countries.
Professor Mohamed Loutfi, Pro-Vice Chancellor (International), commented on the success of the ICBT team, ''as a proud partner of ICBT, Cardiff Met is thrilled to find out about ICBT's outstanding achievement in sport. The University looks forward to seeing the next cricket instalment when ICBT come to the UK for the World Finals''.
