‘Creativity and Time to Dream’

Lauren Child, creator of hit children’s series Charlie and Lola,  will visit Cardiff Met to meet fellow Laureates

Cardiff Metropolitan University will host a one-off "Triple Laureate" event organised by Literature Wales. The event will bring together the Waterstone's Children's Laureate Lauren Child - famed as the creator of the popular Charlie and Lola series, with Welsh children's laureates Casia Wiliam and Sophie McKeand.

The event takes place on 16 March at the University's Cyncoed Campus in association with Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy. Literature Wales hopes it will inspire a new generation of children's writers and educators.

During this bilingual event, all three Laureate - Lauren, Casia and Sophie - will talk about how they encourage a love of literature amongst children of all ages, and will share their own methods in inspiring children to believe in their own creative potential.

Lleucu Siencyn, Chief Executive of Literature Wales, said: "Literature Wales is proud to be part of this event. The development of writing and illustration for children and young people is hugely important, as early access to great literature can have a lasting impact. We're thrilled to be working with partners to ensure that the future generations of Wales will continue to be inspired and bewitched by the power of story."

Jo Bowers, Associate Dean and Principal Lecturer in Primary Education at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said: "We are delighted to be hosting this event with Literature Wales. This will be the fourth Children's Laureate we have hosted over the last six years and the second triple Laureate event for our students and the teachers in the area. We are very excited to be hosting three Laureates here in March. These events are always inspirational for teachers and future teachers to attend and take the magic back into the classroom to encourage children to read for pleasure and become lifelong readers.

Held at 4.00 pm on Friday 16 March 2018 at the Cardiff Metropolitan University Cyncoed Campus, this event is aimed at students, teachers, writers and those interested in children's literature and education, and is delivered in partnership between Literature Wales, Booktrust and Cardiff Metropolitan University.

The laureates will be joined by Lleucu Siencyn, CEO of Literature Wales and Jo Bowers, Associate Dean: Enterprise & Principal Lecturer Primary Education, Cardiff Met.
