The University's Football Club are celebrating after becoming the 2017 B.U.C.S Men's Football Champions.
A dramatic, closely fought 2-1 win against Northumbria University, at the #BUCSBigWednesday finals in Bath, meant Cardiff Met took home the title for the first time in our 150 year history.
Cardiff Met FC have had an extremely successful 12 months, with promotion last year to the top flight of domestic football in Wales (the DafaBet Welsh Premier League). This was followed by the students securing a Top 6 place, meaning they could now get a shot at European qualification before this season ends.
Under the guidance of former professional footballer and Director of Cardiff Met Men's Football and Head Coach, Dr Christian Edwards, and Coach, Professor Robyn Jones, the team have gone from strength to strength. Dr Christian Edwards, who played for Wales and Swansea City said: "We decided to enter our Second XI into the BUCS main tournament. It was a risk but we have confidence in all of our players and they have absolutely proved that each and every member of the team is a champion. We're so proud that Cardiff Met FC brought the winning trophy home and can now call themselves the 2017 B.U.C.S Men's Football Champions."
With BUCS conquered, now Cardiff Met FC can concentrate fully on the possibility of a European vacation during the student's summer break…
