A Cardiff Metropolitan University student has been honoured at the first ever Canoe Wales awards.
Second year BSc (Hons) Sport and Physical Education student, Serena Williams, won the young coach of the year award for her efforts as a sprint coach at Canoe Wales.
The inaugural Canoe Wales awards celebrated the quality of paddlesport talent in Wales, the efforts of those who make the sport possible, and the venues and events that make Wales such a popular place for the sport.
The awards, sponsored by South Wales law firm CJCH Solicitors, were presented at a special event at the Cardiff International White Water Centre.
Speaking about her award, Serena said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been honoured at the first ever Canoe Wales award and would also like to congratulate all the other winners.
"I would also like to thank the staff at Cardiff School of Sport, especially Dave Tonge and my other practical tutors, for helping me to develop my coaching skills."
"We had a fantastic response from our members," said Canoe Wales general manager, Simon Clarke. "There were more than 60 nominations across the categories, and it was a great opportunity to celebrate and congratulate all those that have paddled, travelled, supported and enjoyed paddlesports in Wales over the last year."
