Cardiff Metropolitan University received Professor Sultan Abu Orabi, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), at its official office in China.

The visit comes within the framework of the unique relationship between the AArU and Cardiff Met.

The level of cooperation is already at its highest between Cardiff Met and the AArU.

In 2013, Cardiff Met's President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Antony Chapman, and Professor Sultan Abu Orabi signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the Arab European Leadership Network in Higher Education (ARELEN) with its headquarters in Amman, Jordan.

This was to be the nucleus of a larger partnership between the Arab and European universities.

During the visit to the Cardiff Met China office in Beijing Mr Leo Bin Li, China Chief Representative, briefed Professor Sultan Abu Orabi on the various university activities that the Cardiff Met branch of China does; for example, developing the wide range of partnerships with Chinese universities such as Renmin University and discovering the increased number of Chinese students attending Cardiff Met programs in both the UK and China.

Professor Sultan Abu Orabi commented on his visit to Beijing: 'It has been a positive and unique experience to explore the scale of Cardiff Met's China office operations.

Seeing what the University is doing in China on a global platform is very impressive.

I am looking forward to the relationship between the AArU and Cardiff Met strengthening even more in future'.
