Two Cardiff Met Lecturers receive National Teaching Fellowships at Liverpool Cathedral




Two lecturers at Cardiff Metropolitan University were among a select number of academic professionals to be awarded National Teaching Fellowships from the Higher Education Academy at a ceremony in Liverpool Cathedral last week.

Professor Gary Beauchamp and Ingrid Murphy – were chosen from over 180 nominations submitted by high education institutions across England, Northern Ireland and Wales to receive the most prestigious award for excellence in higher education teaching and support for learning.

The scheme is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland. It is open to staff who teaching or support roles enhance the student learning experience.

Successful nominees were nominated by their institutions and submissions had to show evidence of three criteria: individual excellence, raising the profile of excellence and developing excellence.

Professor Gary Beauchamp is a well-respected individual in the world of teaching. His work as Professor of Education and Associate Dean Research in the School of Education mixed with his vast experience has enabled him to challenge his students' way of learning and support colleagues to increase their confidence.

Gary is published widely in academic and professional journals, and writes commissioned research and reports, including a 36 month European project that he completed recently. 

Ingrid Murphy is the dynamic Subject Leader for Artist, Designer: Maker in Cardiff School of Art & Design.

Ingrid designs teaching and learning environments that promote immersive engagement for learners, be they physical, social or virtual and in 2013, she was recognised for her abilities and was awarded the University's Student-led Teaching Fellowship for Innovative Teaching.
