Universities collaborate at Cardiff’s One Big Thing event

Cardiff Metropolitan University and Cardiff University paired up last week in a collaborative effort for the first event of its kind, Cardiff's One Big Thing.

Cardiff's One Big Thing is a programme set up by ukactive and British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) with the aim of getting students more active.

The theme for this year's One Big Things was '5k anyway'. All students at both universities were encouraged to tackle the 5k course, around Llandaff Fields, Bute Park and along the Taff Trail in whatever way they wanted, which proved to be a welcome break from exam stress.

On a glorious Friday afternoon, with just under 100 students and staff taking part the event was a huge success. With both universities helping marshal and man the site, the partnership between both universities had a positive influence on the event and enabled a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

As this was the first event of its kind, there are already plans to develop the event further and for it to return next year with continued collaborations. Dave Cobner, Director of Sport commented on the event: "The One Big Thing event was a great success, and an excellent example of collaboration between the universities in the city. I am sure it will grow from strength to strength in years to come."
