Cardiff Metropolitan University has announced a three-year sponsorship of Whitchurch Heath Cricket Club.

The partnership between the University and the local club, which is close to the University's Llandaff campus, will strengthen existing community relations and support the development of grassroots sport.

The sponsorship will enable Whitchurch Heath Cricket Club to invest in facilities within the clubhouse in the short term. As the relationship develops, it is hoped that trainee sports coaches from the university will support the training of the club's junior squad.

Carwyn Williams, External Engagement Manager at the University, said: "Cardiff Metropolitan University is keen to support local groups and clubs within the local community and share any expertise that would be of benefit. We are delighted to become a sponsor of Whitchurch Heath Cricket Club and hope that the partnership will go from strength to strength."

Gareth Lucey, Treasurer of Whitchurch Heath Cricket Club "We're delighted to gain the support of Cardiff Met for the coming three years. The sponsorship will help us to develop and improve our facilities - an important consideration for a growing club with four senior teams, and a burgeoning youth section. We currently have youth squads from under-9 to under-15 level.

"We hope that this is the start of a long-term partnership, working to benefit the local community."
