Young sports people from across Wales have won SportingWales Rising Star Awards recognising their top performances at the international stages.

The SportingWales Rising Stars Awards are sponsored by Sport Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University, the Devere Village Urban Resort and SportingWales magazine.

Port Talbot judo player Connor Ireland, north Wales weightlifter Catrin Jones, Cardiff gymnast Maisie Methuen and Bridgend swimmer Rebecca Sutton were four monthly award winners in a presentation ceremony at the Devere Village Urban Resort in Cardiff.

Two of the four, weightlifter Catrin Jones and swimmer Rebecca Sutton, won medals for Wales at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Samoa, gymnast Maisie Methuen and Sutton competed at the European Youth Olympics Festival. All four Rising Stars are targetting the 2020 Olympics.

They follow the likes of Wales rugby star George North, footballer Ben Davies, Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones and world champion cyclists Becky James and Elinor Barker in winning a Rising Star Award.

The four will now be among those vying for the 2016 SportingWales Rising Star Award, following on from Wales rugby international Tyler Morgan who was the overall winner this year.
