The Samsung Art and Design Institute (SADI) was established in 1995 by the Samsung Corporation Company Limited with the aim of raising innovative professional designers to contribute to the Korean design community. The collaboration between SADI and the University of Wales Institute Cardiff (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) began in July 2010 with the franchise of the Master in Design in partnership with the Cardiff School of Art and Design. The MDes programme is delivered jointly and has been designed to allow students to study at Cardiff Metropolitan University, for the first semester, and in SADI for the remaining two semesters. Students are able to take advantage of the expertise and knowledge present in each institution to enhance their understanding of the global product and experience design employment market.

Cardiff Metropolitan University offers the following programmes in partnership with SADI:

Cardiff Metropolitan University's Master in Design offered at SADI is subject to quality assurance procedures and assessed work is subject to scrutiny by appointed External Examiners. As a result of this partnership, students successfully completing the MDes are eligible for Cardiff Metropolitan University awards and are entitled to attend the Graduation Ceremony in Cardiff.
