Andy is a lecturer a​nd Chartered Physiotherapist and qualified massage practitioner on the BSc (Hons) Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage degree programme having joined the school in 2012 following working in professional rugby union.  Prior to this he worked in multiple different sporting settings, private practice and the NHS.

Within the school he is a personal tutor, employability lead for the course and module leader. He also contributes to the MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. Along with the lecturing he has continued to work and consult as a physiotherapist for the Cardiff Centre of Sports and Exercise Medicine as well as NGBs and other sporting organisations. This includes among others GB Rowing, Welsh Hockey, Welsh Tennis, and Welsh Triathlon.


Research / Publications

My primary research interests are focused around sporting injuries and the screening / prediction of risk factors that lead to time away from sport. Currently I am completing research looking at preseason season shoulder strength in rugby union athletes and the risk of subsequent injury.​​

Teaching and Supervision

I am currently module leader for level 4 Introduction to Sports Injuries sand Rehabilitation (ssp 4015), level 6 Work Based Learning (ssp6092) and play an active role in the level 5 Rehabilitation and Sport Injury Module (ssp5063) Together with this I am a level 4 and 6 personal tutor for the SCRaM course. Alongside these roles I work as the employability lead for the SCRaM programme and organise the student work placements in the third year of the degree. With regards the MSc Sport and Exercise medicine I am responsible for the delivering and marking elements of the course content.

Sport / Coaching Profile

Working as a physiotherapist I have been very fortunate to work across and with a large number of teams and sports in my career to date. Most notably; GB Rowing, Northampton Saints Rugby, the ECB, England Touch Rugby, Hockey Wales, Welsh Tennis, and British Universities and Colleges sport.
