The recruitment of committed, high quality staff is critical to the continued success of the Cardiff School of ​Sport and Health Sciences.​

The lecturing staff have a wide range of expertise across all the major sport-related academic and sports coach​ing disciplines.

Many staff are involved in applied research, consultancy and high level coaching activities which are directly relevant to and inform the modules that they are delivering.​​​

Technical Support Staff

The Research & Innovation and Project Technical Support Team provides support, help and advice across two areas of the School's specialist laboratory areas. The R&I team works with Post Doctoral researchers, PhD students, postgraduate students and academics. The team supports a diverse range of research and innovation activities across several scientific disciplines.

The Project Support team works with undergraduate BSc and MSc students to facilitate the delivery of research projects across Biomedical Science, Food Science & Technology and Podiatry programmes. Technical staff in both areas work across disciplines, providing support not only for each other, but also for Learning and Teaching, providing expertise for taught practical classes and contributing to the Technician Demonstrator pool.

The Learning & Teaching Technical Support Team supports the delivery of practical class teaching across School's Biomedical Sciences, Dental Technology and Food Science & Technology degree programmes. The team provides laboratory management and supervision, specialist technical support, practical class preparation, delivery and recovery. The team also provides Technician Demonstrator support to these practical class teaching activities.

The Clinical Technical Support Team provides technical support for a wide range of clinical areas and activities including some of our NHS funded, Health and Care Professions Council accredited degree programmes. The areas covered include podiatry, speech and language therapy, psychology, complementary healthcare and the health assessment suite. Many of these areas run clinics for patients or clients.  

Technical Support (Cyncoed Campus)

There are five technical support teams that support the laboratories and studio spaces on the Cyncoed Campus. The five areas are:

  • Biomechanics

  • Sport Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage

  • Sport Physiology

  • Sport Performance Analysis

  • Sport Media and Broadcast


The teams support undergraduate and postgraduate taught degrees and doctoral research.  They are involved in staff research and externally funded research and innovation projects.

The team on both campuses oversee the day-to-day running of these areas, covering health and safety, clinic and specialist teaching area set up, stock control, maintenance of specialist equipment and software, and technical support provision for staff and students.

The teams are currently based across both campus' supporting the School of Sport and Health Sciences.

The Programme Support team provides academics, students and management with support in a diverse range of areas relating to the taught programmes throughout the year.
