Advice for prospective students on the changes to exam results

At Cardiff Met, we have maintained our values-driven approach to decision making and prioritised the health and wellbeing of our students and staff throughout the Coronavirus crisis.

We have tried to ensure that we provide prospective students with the assurances and clarity that they have needed at the earliest possible opportunity, and we understand that the last few months have been challenging for all of you. We know that the publication of your grades may have caused confusion and upset but don’t worry - we’re here to help.

We want to offer you as much support as we can during the admissions process, to make sure you have the right information to make informed decisions about your future. Our Advice Line remains open and our advisers are on hand by phone, e-mail and live chat.

Revised exam grades

We welcome the announcement by the Welsh, Scottish and UK Governments that all A level, AS, GCSE, Skills Challenge Certificate and Welsh Baccalaureate grades will now be awarded on the basis of Centre Assessment Grades (School or College assessment grades).

If you are impacted by this change in direction, here’s how we can help:

If you have been offered an unconditional place at Cardiff Met, and have accepted this on your UCAS Track, then sit back; you don’t need to anything else except get yourself ready for University in September. You can find out more by visiting cardiffmet.ac.uk/whattoexpect.

If you have been offered a conditional place at Cardiff Met for 2020 entry, we will honour that place for all applicants who meet the entry requirements and have:

  • Selected us as firm choice, or

  • have been changed to firm as a result of not meeting the terms of your first choice.

Please note: there are certain courses such as Social Work, Healthcare and Speech & Language that have Government restricted targets as well as those with restricted physical capacity requirements outside of our control. Please contact us for further details if you are unsure.

You’ll need to contact the Admissions team as soon as possible to confirm your place in order to begin arranging your student finance and accommodation for the start of term – don’t forget that induction week starts on September 28, 2020.

For more information on student finance please visit our Student Finance pages.
For more information on student accommodation please visit our accommodation pages.

Appealing your exam results

If you have still chosen to appeal your results following yesterday’s announcements, we will honour that place for the majority of courses and keep it open to all applicants who meet the entry requirements and:

  • Selected us as firm choice, or
  • have been changed to firm as a result of not meeting the terms of your first choice.

Please note: there are certain courses such as Social Work, Healthcare and Speech & Language that have Government restricted targets as well as those with restricted physical capacity requirements outside of our control. Please contact us for further details if you are unsure.

You’ll need to meet the conditions of any offer and contact the Admissions team as soon as possible to confirm your place in order to begin arranging your student finance and accommodation for the start of term – don’t forget that induction week starts on September 28, 2020. If you think there will be a delay, get in touch with the Advice Line team who can advise on individual cases.

We know that there will be families across the UK who will already have spent many hours researching and weighing up options for university before deciding on the best option for them, but if you are still undecided, our Advice Line is open daily to help find the right course for you and your future goals.
