Arthur Milroy - BSc in Sport Management
Trips to New York, Holland and Brazil have all been part of the day job since Arthur Milroy graduated from the Cardiff School of Sport with a First Class honours degree in Sports Management.
Arthur works for one of the world’s leading travel leisure groups, TUI Travel PLC and is currently based in London launching a new specialist cycling travel division for the brand.
He secured the exciting role after spending a summer internship placement with the company during his second year at university.
Originally from Stroud in Gloucester, Arthur applied to study at Cardiff Metropolitan University after hearing about the Cardiff School of Sport’s excellent reputation from his Cirencester Football Academy coach, ex-Welsh football player and Cardiff Met alumni, Steve Lowndes.
Speaking about the appeal of his course, Arthur said: “I knew I wanted to work in the business side of sport and the course at Cardiff Met offered a chance to study management from a sporting perspective, with clear transferable skills and benefits.
“During my time at university, I volunteered as Royal Venues Team Leader at the London 2012 Olympic Games as well as working at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014. Both were fantastic opportunities and my course tutors were very accommodating in allowing me to take time out to travel to Russia. My experiences at both Games formed part of my final dissertation on volunteering at major sporting events.”
“My role at the moment involves product proposals, website development and sourcing the operations for the company’s pilot event taking place in Nice, France. It’s a busy and exciting role and I’m liaising with elite sporting organisations on a day-to-day basis. The job also has its perks, including complimentary England tickets, VIP hospitality at the NFL and access to worldwide sporting events such as the World Cup.”
Arthur singles out Marketing and Finance as two of his degree course modules which have been particularly useful in his new role with TUI.
He said: “The whole course was great preparation for the workplace, but those elements are really aligned to the work I’m currently doing.”
He hopes to continue his academic studies alongside his career by studying for a Masters in Sport Management in the future.
