Elite Sport Scholar Award Questions

Is there a closing date for applying for the Award?

The closing date is 1st August 2020. You also need to have been offered a place and be enrolled at Cardiff Met to receive the award.

I am already studying at Cardiff Met. Can I apply for the Award?

Yes. Any students who meet the eligibility criteria may apply.

I am not sure if I meet the eligibility criteria in relation to my sport?

Any questions you may have in relation to eligibility or the award itself can be e-mailed to Owen Rodgers at orodgers@cardiffmet.ac.uk.

I won't be studying within the School of Sport & Health Sciences. Can I apply for the Award?

Applications are welcome from all applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and are studying within any of Cardiff Met's Academic Schools.

How does my coach make a recommendation in order to meet the criteria?

During the application, please supply your coaches' details. We will contact them as part of the application process.

How do I demonstrate my level of sport?

We will clarify your level of sport through consultation with your coach and your governing body.

When will I be contacted in relation to receiving the Award?

After you apply for the award you will receive an automatic e-mail to confirm we have received your application. You will then be notified if you are eligible to receive the award subject to meeting the terms and conditions. Once the terms and conditions have been met you will then be sent confirmation including information on how to use the award.  If you have any queries you can contact Owen Rodgers at orodgers@cardiffmet.ac.uk.

Who makes the decision in relation to the Award?

The scholarship will be awarded by a panel, which will include Head of Performance Sport, Performance Director, Students Union Sports Manager, and an academic member of staff.

How do I reapply for the Award each year?

All existing scholars will be sent an application form.

I am receiving the Award and will be continuing my studies into a fourth year. Do I still get the award?

The Award is normally allocated for three years but consideration will be given for applicants who are undertaking a 4 year course (including Foundation), as well as those studying part time.

I am re sitting my 1st year and not progressing. Will I still be able to receive the Award?

I am afraid the Award is not allocated without progression, unless there are full mitigating circumstances, so if you have to re sit any year you will not be entitled to receive the Award for that year. If you progress to year two after retaking the first year and successfully pass you will then be entitled to receive the award once you start your second year.

Information on mitigating circumstances can be found in the Cardiff Met Academic Handbook. If you have any queries please contact the Bursaries and Scholarship Officer on scholarship@cardiffmet.ac.uk
