PGT Support Package FAQs

​Please find below frequently asked questions with regards to the Welsh Government Postgraduate Support Package for 2018/19.

I live in England. Am I eligible for the bursary?

You must be an ordinarily resident in Wales, 'habitually, normally and lawfully resided in that area from choice'.  If you are from another part of the UK and are currently living in Wales for the purposes of study you won't be classed as an 'ordinarily resident' in Wales and therefore will not be eligible for the bursary.  Information for EU nationals is clarified on the Student Finance Wales Eligibility webpage.

Is my course eligible?

You must hold an offer to study on one of our taught postgraduate masters courses beginning September/October 2018 to be eligible.  At Cardiff Met this includes LLM, MA, MFA, Phil, MRes and MSc programmes.  Postgraduate Diplomas, PhD's and Professional Doctorates will not be eligible.

Do I need to apply for the bursary?

No, the award will be granted to those eligible by Admissions, and on a first come first serve basis (based on reply to offer date) if there are more eligible students than awards available.

I am not applying to Student Finance Wales for a postgraduate loan. How do I evidence my residence status? 

Applicants who are not applying for a postgraduate loan will need to provide additional evidence to prove area of residence, date of birth and nationality by completing the following form.

I am applying to Student Finance Wales for a postgraduate loan. How do I evidence my residence status?

You will not need to provide any additional information to Cardiff Met as Student Finance Wales will undertake all of the required checks.

How will I be notified that I am eligible for the award?

Once the eligibility criteria has been met we will aim to notify you of the outcome via email from August.  Receipt of the award will still be dependant on successful enrolment onto your programme.

Can I defer my award to 2019

No, you are unable to defer your bursary if you choose to attend the next academic year.

What is meant by self-funding?

If you are self-funding you are paying for the programme yourself via private funds or via a postgraduate loan.

My employer is paying for my study. Will I be eligible for the bursary?

No, as you are not self-funding you will not be eligible for the bursary.

Can I have the bursary alongside the Alumni Discount?

Yes, you can be awarded both the alumni discount and bursary if you meet all of the related eligibility criteria. The alumni discount will be deducted initially and then the bursary will be taken from the remaining fee.

I have accepted my offer, however I have decided to withdraw my acceptance. Will I be liable for fees?

No, you will not be liable for fees unless you enrol and begin the programme.
