What is a Cardiff Met Rider bus pass?
The Cardiff Met Rider pass is only available to students and staff at Cardiff Metropolitan
University, and provides holders with free and unlimited travel on all Cardiff Bus services all
day every day for the 10 months of the academic year, from 1st September to 30th June.
How much does a Met Rider bus pass cost?
For students, the Cardiff Met Rider bus pass costs just £270 for the academic year, which
works out as just £6.27 a week.
The cost of a staff ticket is £295 for the academic year.
How do I apply for a Cardiff Met Rider pass?
Simply fill in an application form, available to download online, and pay the £270 fee either
by card in advance of the start of the academic year or by card or cash in person at Cyncoed
or Llandaff Campus Print Studios.
Where do I send my completed application?
You can post your application and a passport photo to:

Met Rider passes can only be collected from your choice of Llandaff Print Studio or Cyncoed
I purchased a Met Rider bus pass last year – do I need to reapply?
I’ve lost my pass or it’s been stolen – how do I get a replacement?
You can get in touch with Cardiff Bus on 029 2078 7761 to see if it’s been handed in.
Alternatively, replacements can be collected from Print Studio for a £10 charge.
Can I buy a pass for half the year?
We only sell second semester passes which aree available from the 1st February each year.
Can I get a refund if I decide I no longer want to use my Cardiff Met Rider pass?
We’re afraid not. All Met Rider passes are non-refundable.
Can I use my pass outside of term time?
The Cardiff Met Rider pass is valid all day every day throughout the academic year, which
runs from September to June. It can be used over Christmas and Easter breaks, but not
during the Summer Holidays between June and September.
When does my Cardiff Met Rider pass expire?
All bus passes expire on 30th June.
Are there any restrictions on the Cardiff Met Rider pass?
No, the Met Rider pass is valid on the entire Cardiff Bus network.
How does the Cardiff Met Rider pass work?
Once you’ve paid for your card, you can use it on all Met Rider and Cardiff Bus services as
many times as you’d like. Simply scan your card every time you board a bus and enjoy free
and unlimited travel across Cardiff.
Do I have to have my bus pass on me at all times?
You’ll need your Cardiff Met Rider pass on you to scan when boarding a bus. If you don’t
have your Met Rider pass on you, you will be required to pay the full adult fare.

Can my friends use my Met Rider?
No. Your pass will have your name and your photo printed on the card. Only the named
person can use that pass.

What are Rider Routes?
Rider Routes are public services put on specifically for Cardiff Met staff and students. They
include stops at North Road Halls, near Victoria Halls, Severn Point, Liberty Cambrian, Liberty
Court, as well as a dedicated Roath to Llandaff Campus route and supermarket trips on
Monday to Friday evenings.
Where can I find a bus timetable?
Bus timetables can be found on the Cardiff Bus website. Paper timetable pamphlets can also
be found at the university’s main reception or at the i-zone on your campus.
Will my bus pass allow me to leave Cardiff city centre?
Of course! As the Met Rider pass is valid on all Cardiff Bus services, you can use it to visit
everywhere from Cardiff Bay to Barry Island.
