Students' Welsh Language Rights

Your Rights

As students studying in Wales, you have a range of rights which prescribe that you can receive services through the medium of Welsh at University. Since the Welsh Language Standards came into force in 2018, several language duties have been placed on Universities in Wales. These language duties / 'Standards' enable you to receive the following in Welsh:

  • Letters
  • Forms
  • Counselling Services
  • Applications for financial support
  • Meetings
  • Welcome booklets
  • Certificates
  • The ability to present assessments in Welsh (essays, exams, etc.)
  • Personal tutor
  • Prospectus

Remember that these are your rights as students. It is important that you use them if you would prefer to receive services in Welsh. In addition to the Standards, the above points were approved as part of the University's Institutional Policy on the Welsh language. The University therefore fully supports your rights as Welsh-speaking students at the Met and we are here to support you.
