We will ensure our students gain experience, knowledge, confidence and resilience to prepare them for their working life.

2. Cardiff Global

Our University will continue to build and strengthen our global links by connecting with partner universities, organisations and people around the world; producing research with global relevance and impact; and graduating students as global citizens, who will play a leadership role in their communities, wherever they live.

The Global Academies, established as part of the original strategy, will be one aspect, and will drive interdisciplinary, international and impactful postgraduate and research provision in areas where the University is internationally leading.

Our international outlook will be reinforced by building on our increased numbers of international students to help create a diverse campus with a global perspective.

3. Cardiff School of Technologies

Our University will focus on growing the new School of Technologies. Using the School's unique mix of disciplines, offering education, research and innovation to address student demand and employer need in digital and smart technology, data science and informatics, electronics and robotics engineering.

Raising Wales' international profile in terms of creativity, sustainability and technology. Working within Wales' Wellbeing and Future Generations framework providing a highly skilled workforce for the Cardiff Capital Region and Wales, and helping to drive the Welsh economy in what will be an exceptionally challenging landscape post-Covid and following Brexit.

4. Managed growth across all Schools

Our University will increase its student population by extending its geographical reach, diversifying its programme portfolio and enhancing its partnerships with employers and stakeholders. School growth will be underpinned by:

  • high quality academic standards and research informed teaching;

  • development of innovative blended learning approach across all Schools;

  • highly skilled and qualified staff with industry links;

  • high levels of student and staff mobility and an international outlook; and

  • technology-enhanced learning and assessment leading to high levels of graduate employment.

Growth will be monitored in light of Covid-19, Brexit and changes to the policy landscape.

5. Growth in Research and Innovation

Our University will build on its position as the UK's modern university with the highest quality research (REF 2014) to develop its reputation through diversifying income, maintaining volume and focusing on long-term staff development and support, including a focus on systematically increasing research output quality, value and impact of research and innovation through the Global Academies.

6. Wales and the region

Our University will build on its civic mission work in line with Welsh Government priorities. We will increase our collaboration with partners through the Cardiff Open Colleges project. We are committed to supporting the needs of the communities we serve both locally and nationally by promoting the Welsh language and culture. This priority will:

  • deliver progression routes from schools and colleges;

  • support the expansion of Welsh medium provision ensuring opportunities for all students, staff and the public to enhance their Welsh skills; and

  • foster civic mission in the Cardiff Capital Region.

7. One Cardiff Met Digital

Our University will focus attention on its digital infrastructure to support online teaching and learning, and cocurricular activity to help address what is a very challenging studying environment where online and blended provision is of paramount importance.

The digital enhancement priority will also address issues associated from prolonged working from home for staff which has been necessary due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The One Cardiff Met Digital will focus on people as well as technology and process, and we will support all students and all staff in getting the best out of digital technology.
