Current research

I have had strong associations with Rajasthan since first visiting India in 1993 to set up the Wales Rajasthan Visual Artists Exchange. This project was supported by the Charles Wallace India Trust, The British Council and the Arts Council of Wales (the organisers) between 1993-98. This association has continued since then.

The impact of the rich visual culture of India, and in particular aspects of their traditional architecture Stepwells, have formed the centre of an ongoing documentation of these structures in the Thar Desert in Rajasthan. To date over the last decade I have recorded over 300 wells and have been touring an exhibition, “Subterranean Architecture. Stepwells in Western India” since 2008.
