Information for Students about Work Placements

A work experience placement is a compulsory part of your studies here at the Cardiff School of Management and is academically assessed.

A completed placement will help to provide you with the following personal outcomes

  • It's a great opportunity to develop and improve your employability skills
  • You'll add value to your CV
  • You can put theory in to practice
  • You make and develop links with prospective employers
  • You can optimise your chance of securing employment after graduation

Programme details

The minimum requirement is a 15 day placement during your second year of study.  You will have a day a week free of lectures to go out into a business or organisation to complete your placement.

Here at the Cardiff School of Management we have guidance on what placements are available, help in securing a placement, advice on how it is arranged and how it will fit with your academic study.

Want to do more than the compulsory 15 days?

Most courses here allow you to undertake a full year in industry. Competitive though it is to find a year out, it is an area to explore further and we can help with the search

For further help, contact our dedicated placement team via email at csmworkplacements@cardiffmet.ac.uk or telephone 02920 205671

Year out Information

You may want to look for a placement overseas.  To find placements abroad look at multinational companies and see if they're offering placements in their overseas offices.  The university placement advisers have a list of options in various organisations and companies which can help you source overseas sandwich year placements.

If you are doing a year out industrial placement as part of your course, you'll need to check that the placement is relevant to your degree and that the university approves of the placement.

For placements in EU countries there is the added bonus that you may be able to apply through Erasmus and be eligible for an Erasmus grant. Follow the link erasmus@cardiffmet.ac.uk for further information.
