Staff Overview

I left school at 16, going into the Banking and Finance industry, where I worked my way up from a back-office clerk to a Shareholder Relations Manager and subsequently an Ops Manager with responsibility for around 300 staff. I have also run my own business for a short while. I have been at Cardiff Met for about 10 years, initially as an associate tutor and for the last 7 years as a permanent lecturer. I did all of my university studies whilst working full time AND having my two children. I am currently studying for a DBA, and the focus of my research is Student Engagement.

Teaching

I currently lead one seminar for the Foundation programme, am module leader for a core module in the BA Business and Management Studies programme and am module leader for a core module in the MBA programme – so at any given time could be teaching up to 200 students!

Research

I am studying for my Doctorate in Business Administration. My research is focussing on how we can adapt and change our programme delivery, to improve student engagement.

I also have a keen interest in neuro-diversity and how best to manage neuro-diverse offspring (my two boys) and how best to adapt my teaching to be most accessible to those with neuro difficulties such as dyslexia.

Key Publications

As yet, I have not published any journal articles, but hope to do so as part of my Doctoral journey.

Other Projects and activities

I am an Associate Member of the CIPD, a Fellow of the Institute of Leadership and Management; and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
