Claire graduated from Aberystwyth University with an economics degree. She moved into public practise and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers (formerly Coopers and Lybrand). Having audited companies with activities as diverse as steel manufacture and casino gambling, she moved out into industry.
The next ten years she spent as a financial accountant in the printing industry and as a management accountant in the food manufacturing industry.
Claire's final industrial role was as Manufacturing Support Manager for Walkers Snack Foods, who were a wholly owned subsidiary of Pepsico. This role broke away from the traditional accounting mould as she was responsible for installing a multi-million pound production line for new product ranges.
At Cardiff Met, Claire lectures on Auditing and Corporate Governance. The Cardiff School of Management has been awarded recognition of professional exam exemptions by the ACCA and the ICAEW. Claire is one of the team lecturing the modules that gain these prestigious professional exemptions for the students.
Dr Evans is interested in issues of gender and diversity in relation to the professions, particularly accounting. Her doctoral research focused on gendered structures operating within the UK accounting profession and addressed identity and its relationship with gender as well as the body and embodiment within organisations. Her ongoing research embraces the juxtaposition of professional and personal identities as well as the conduct of the professions and professional services firms.
