Gareth is currently Lecturer and Year Tutor on the CSM Foundation programme, acting as module leader for both 'Academic and Professional Skills' and 'Developing a Research Project'.   Gareth has also contributed to other modules in the School of Management, and the School of Education and Social Policy.

Gareth gained a broad professional background beginning his working life in engineering before going on to work in local churches and developing community projects.  This latter work included some 'A' level teaching in a local school and contributing to the setting up of a community based Higher Education project in South Wales.  Gareth has also worked in the FE sector for seven years teaching Philosophy and Sociology.  Along the way, Gareth acquired degrees in Theology, Philosophy (both with a focus on Environmental Ethics), and Social Science, together with a PGCE in Lifelong Learning.  

In Higher Education Gareth has worked; as chaplain to the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the RNCM, as a research fellow at Cardiff University specialising in research ethics, and as a teaching fellow in education at the University of Bath.  Gareth joined Cardiff Metropolitan University in 2015.

Current Research

Gareth's current research revolves around the question; can a relational understanding of the tutorial as a dialogical educational experience serve as a philosophical groundwork for a university education that is liberatory and ecologically just?
