Cardiff Met Medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games have come to a close, and Cardiff Met athletes have once again showcased their talent and determination on the world stage following a successful Olympics.

In basketball, Phil Pratt led Team GB’s men’s wheelchair basketball team to an incredible silver medal, narrowly losing to the USA in a thrilling final with a score of 73-69, with Eliott Jennings, a Sports Performance Analysis Academics Associate at the University supporting the team.

In the women’s wheelchair basketball competition, Katie Morrow, Maddie Martin, and Jade Atkin helped the GB team secure a 5th-place finish, contributing to a strong tournament run.

Aled Siôn Davies, the F42 world record holder, was “gutted” to miss out on his fourth consecutive Paralympic gold, finishing with a silver in the men’s F63 shot put. Despite leading with a 15.10m throw, Kuwait’s Faisal Sorour edged ahead with 15.31m. However, Davies remains confident, declaring himself still the world’s best thrower. In their Paralympic debuts, Harrison Walsh finished an impressive 7th in the men’s F64 discus throw, while Funmi Oduwaiye placed 8th in the women’s F64 discus final and 5th in the shot put final.
