Machine Learning Micro-Credential Course

Machine learning is one of the most sought-after skills in today's data-driven world. However, learning how to develop, train, and evaluate machine learning models can be challenging, especially for those who do not have extensive coding knowledge or experience.

That's why we have designed a micro-credential course that teaches you how to use Python, AutoML, and other low-code open-source libraries to perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) and machine learning model development with little coding experience. This course will help you gain practical skills and knowledge that you can apply to real-world problems and scenarios.

What is AutoML?

AutoML is an umbrella term for various open-source libraries that automate some or all the steps involved in building machine learning models, such as data pre-processing, feature engineering, algorithm selection, hyperparameter tuning, and model evaluation.

What you will receive

10 UK credits at Undergraduate level from Cardiff Met University and a Certificate. Academic credits are awarded on passing the final assessment.

Course Content

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Set up a Python development environment.
  • Perform Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to understand your data and summarize its main characteristics using statistical graphics and other data visualization methods to discover patterns and spot anomalies.
  • Develop both supervised and unsupervised machine learning models.
  • Supervised models include classification (e.g., predicting customer churn), regression (e.g., predicting house prices) and time series forecasting (e.g., predicting sales).
  • Unsupervised models include clustering (e.g., finding customer segments) and anomaly detection (e.g., identifying unusual data patterns).
  • Evaluate the performance and interpret the output of machine learning models using visualizations and other explainable AI methods.

Coursework and Assessment

Assessments are designed to consolidate your learning.

You will complete a short, written assessment equating to around 2,000 words. The assignment will require you to develop a machine learning model and present it with screenshots and explanations of the rationale for your development decisions. You will be introduced to the concepts and materials you need for the assignment over the duration of the course.
