Treganna Gin - Case Study

Background

Treganna Gin is an artisan distillery which was established in Cardiff in 2019. Their gin is flavoured with the finest botanicals sourced from around the world and distilled in small batches using copper alembic stills. Their gin is regularly available to purchase from Riverside Market in Cardiff as well as directly from the company.

When Treganna Gin moved into a new distillery in 2020, they approached ZERO2FIVE for support with the design, development and implementation of their Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plan and Environmental Health approval.

Support from ZERO2FIVE

Having initially attended a virtual Meet ZERO2FIVE event to find out about the funded support available through Project HELIX, the company received mentoring from a ZERO2FIVE technologist. This support focused on the development of their HACCP Plan, including all the prerequisites and procedures underlying it such as cleaning, labelling and product specifications. ZERO2FIVE also provided information on the layout of the new distillery to comply with relevant legislation.

Benefits of the support

Treganna Gin had their Environmental Health inspection in February 2021 and the company were delighted to receive a Food Hygiene rating scheme score of 5. This will allow the business to continue to trade and give their customers reassurance about their safety standards.

Mark Flanagan, Managing Director, Treganna Gin:

“ZERO2FIVE’s support through Project HELIX has really transformed my business. Not only have I gained vital skills and knowledge, but ZERO2FIVE have supported the implementation of the food safety systems that form the foundation of our manufacturing. The 5 rating from Environmental Health has given our customers confidence in our procedures and safety, which will undoubtedly have a positive financial impact."
